It's the new year, and with the new year come new content! We here at FS are going to try and keep up a 1 article a week schedule (compared to our 3 articles a month system we use currently) so as to constantly keep you guys up and in the know. You'll be seeing new series start, more technical oriented tutorials, as well as design and inspiration posts.
Now I know what you're thinking "Yeah, that's all well and good, but we need proof! Where's some cold hard evidence?" Well, since I can't just upload my localhost and let you guys examine that, you'll just have to take my word for it until you start seeing the results in a few days. But, tell you what, I'll give a little bit of meat to chew on while we get everything ready.
Here's a list of all the posts I plan to do, along with some series ideas:
Articles:
- Manipulating the DOM with jQuery - Learn how to manipulate and alter the DOM of your websites using the amazing JavaScript library, jQuery.
- Writing Pro CSS - Learn how to stop writing beginner CSS and start writing CSS like a professional web developer by using advanced techniques and conventions.
- Semantics in Web Development - How you code your files actually affects how it works. If you could it like your hands were industrial glued together and you were being smacked by the "spank a monkey" monkey getting his revenge for all those hours you sent him flying, then your codes going to behave like that. We'll show you how to fix that and get that monkey off your back (pun intended, couldn't resist).
- How to Write Production Quality Code - Nothing sucks more than an poorly coded site causing users and other developers hardships when trying to use it.
- Add interactivity to your site using jQuery - HTML is the body, CSS the skin, and JavaScript the muscles. Without interactivity, your sites the web equivalent of a manikin.
- Advanced CSS Selectors - nothing's un-stylable, you just got to know how to be more specific in your selecting.
- Pseudo CSS - Save space in your code by using some pseudo (fake) selectors to give elements styles without resorting to hacks/mods.
- Overwriting Inline-styles - yeah, it's not impossible. We'll show you just how to do it so that next time you have to style a website without access to the HTML core, you won't be S.O.L.
Series:
- WTF? Design (non-confirmed) - Showcasing the worst design choices being made by our fellow designers
- Web Host Reviews (non-confirmed) - A series by Andrew hoping to inform all you readers which Hosts rock and which ones should have packed up and moved to the caves of Iran years ago.
- How to Install . - This is a fairly new series Andrew started with his screencast "Installing Wordpress - Screencast". We'll be covering just about anything we can download for free (or if someone wants to donate a license we'll cover some paid products :) ) and walking you through step-by-step.
- Daily Snippet (no start date) - A daily (or bi-daily) serving of the smallest and most useful code snippets to add to your web developing arsenal.
- The Weekly Beta (non-confirmed) - Every week I'll bring you the latest and coolest beta app. or web app. released for you all to spend endless hours stress testing and causing fatal errors.
- Letters From the Editor - Every month I'll bring you the low-down on everything that's happening in the FI network.
- FS-Air: Hear the Web (starts Thursday) - Each Week I'll write up a small post about our latest episode explaining anything our extensive show-notes (written by James White) don't cover and providing example code of some technical subjects we cover.
Impressed? I hope so, and that's not even all of it. We've got special guests lined up to help mix it up a bit :D and deliver articles on topics that we may not be too keen on. BUT! That doesn't mean we're not open to more writers! If you've got an idea or article in mind, write it up and send it in to us! You'll get great exposure, plus all article writers get a 20% discount on ad prices!
Thanks for reading and have a great year!
Regards, Fire G.
